The Lone Star Brahmas welcomed the Corpus Christi Icerays into the Shoebox to close out the 2015 preseason schedule. Corpus Christi had the best scoring chances early, but Conor OBrien made two big saves to keep the game scoreless. The first came on a point blank shot just off the far post which he snatched away with the glove with 7:23 to go. On the second he stoned Andy McGlynn on a breakaway with the left pad.

The wall that Obrien put up inspired the offense and Peter Kessel sent Alex Berardinelli flying into the offensive zone on a break of his own. Berardinelli carried it to the near side faceoff dot and riffled it over the glove hand of Graham Hunt at 17:01. Lone Star just missed going up two moments later when a goal was waived off because the net was off its moorings.

With just over three minutes gone in the middle frame Carson Kelly missed by a hair putting the Brahmas up two as he had Hunt beat high blocker side but rang it off the crossbar from the left wing circle. The Icerays got the equalizer at 6:27 on a funny bounce off of OBrein which went straight up about three feet over the crossbar and came down in the midst of several players in the crease before sneaking through the Brahmas’ netminder. Steve Bryant was credited with the goal while Nathan Bryer and Johnathan Hansson picked up the assists. A bang-bang play with 8:39 to go put the visitors up 2 -1. Ryan Cusin corralled a loose puck behind the net of Darion Hanson, who had replaced OBrein in goal, and fed it out front to a streaking Carter Johnson for a quick shot over the left pad.

Midway through the third, Birardinelli was instrumental in another Brahmas scoring chance when he picked off a clearing pass at the blueline and made a great cross ice pass to Carson Kelly who blasted it off the left post. With 9:17 to go, a hard check along the near halfwall by Frank Trazzera sparked a scrum involving all skaters on the ice. When was all said and done Trazzera got and early shower and the Brahmas found themselves a man down.

Lone Star pulled the goalie with one minute left to play and had a furious run at the Icerays netminder, but multiple pucks just missed the twine ending.
