Can you feel the chill in the air? With the mercury falling out of the triple digits today, it can only mean one thing. Hockey season is just around the corner.

The Lone Star Brahmas will be reporting for training camp in a couple of weeks with a reworked roster that will be looking to go a step further than last season. Last year’s quad that came one goal short of playing for the NAHL Robertson Cup Championship moved 10 players on to the NCAA and two players have moved on to USHL rosters. Despite their success in advancing players to the next level, the Brahmas will not be without some strong veteran leadership in camp. Oskar Andren, Cody Wickline, Hogan Davidson, Pete Kessel and Sean Giles are all  returning along with Bud Madej who left the team last year following a mid season injury. Lone Star also made a couple off season trades and pickups that will help bolster the roster with NAHL veterans. Forwards Alex Berardinelli, Peter Bates and Defenseman Dalton Skelly all come over from the Michigan Warriors while Defenseman John Zimmerman joins the team from the Fairbanks Ice Dogs.

The preseason schedule will include three games starting in early September. The first game will see the Brahmas heading to Wichita Falls to face the South Division rival Wildcats. Puck drop at the Kay Yeager Coliseum is scheduled for 7:00 pm. The following night the same two teams will be in the NYTEX Sports Centre for a 7:30 pm tilt. The final tune up will come against the visiting Corpus Christi Icerays on September 15th.

Following their contest with the Icerays the Brahmas will move on to Amarillo to open their regular season schedule against the Bulls on the 19th. They will close out the month in Blaine, MN with games against Springfield Jr Blues, Fairbanks Ice Dogs, Minnesota Wilderness and Johnstown Tomahawks at the NAHL Showcase Tournament. After a weekend series in Topeka, Lone Star will finally get to play a game that counts in front of their raucous fans at the “Shoebox” when they welcome Amarillo to kick off the home schedule on October 9th.

If you are looking to take your involvement with the Lone Star Brahmas to a new level, the organization has an opportunity for you as a Billet Family. Being a billet parent can be a very rewarding experience, enriching both the families and players alike. As a billet, you have the opportunity to provide a stable and supportive environment to a blossoming student athlete. These relationships can last a lifetime.

In fact, NHL Hall of Famer and the top American point scorer, Dallas Stars great, Mike Modano still speaks highly of his junior team billet family and even included the family in his speech during his jersey retirement.

Join the Brahmas team today and help encourage and develop a talented young athlete.
