It’s Back-To-Back Brahma Warrior Awards For Hogan Davidson

On Wednesday April 27, the Lone Star Brahmas held their Year End Cookout at ZuRoma Bar & Grill inside the NYTEX Sports Centre. Early in the festivities veteran forward and Alternate Captain, Hogan Davidson was presented with the JrHockeyDigest.com – Brahma Warrior Award. It was the second straight season that Davidson was so honored.

The Brahma Warrior Award is presented each season to the Brahmas player “Who gives the extra effort both physically and mentally. He displays a competitive attitude by pushing himself and his teammates every day with a fearless and relentless attitude.”

Each season the award is voted on by the radio voices of the Brahmas, Nick Marek and Walt Ruff, the Brahmas’ team Captains and the Editor of JrHockeyDigest.com, Kirk Estes. Davidson name was included on each ballot cast. Other Brahmas players receiving votes were Alex Berardinelli, Tyler Drevitch, Sean Giles and Carson Kelley.

In his second full season with Lone Star, Davidson joined Captain Sean Giles and Alternate Captain John Zimmerman as the leadership core of the team. The 5’ 9” – 175 native of Duluth, MN was one of two players to compete in all 60 regular season games and all four playoff contests.IMG_0532 (2)

Davidson registered 26 points during the regular season on 11G – 15A with two game winning goals and two shorthanded goals. He followed that up by leading the team in scoring during their short playoff run with 1G – 3A. The Brahmas boasted one of the top penalty kill units in the NAHL during the 2015/16 season and Davidson played a key role in the success of the unit giving up the body to fill shooting lanes and block numerous shot attempts.

When asked before the season if he thought he could win the Brahma Warrior Award a second time, Davidson’s response was just what you would expect from a team player. “I just try to do my best day in and day out. I take no days off so I can improve every day my skates touch the ice,” he said. “I’m not worried about repeating this year. I’m just going to try and play like I always do, but I can already tell we have nothing but warriors on the team this year.” Well the way he always plays drew high praise from his teammates when they cast their ballots.

“He’s the definition of what it means to be a Brahma. Every day, regardless of whether it’s a practice or a game, Davey is going to give you everything he’s got,” said Zimmerman. He went on to add, “Maybe even more impressive than his on ice habits are the way he carries himself off the ice and in the community. Davey is the type of guy to drop anything he’s doing to help someone out no matter the circumstances. He’s a leader and I could talk positively about him for hours if I had to.”

Giles said of Davidson, “I know that he won the award last year but when you say fearless and relentless attitude, Hogan Davidson is the player that comes to mind. Every team in the league hates to play against him and he’s a big asset to us.”

Hogan will now head back to home in Minnesota and whatever life has in store for him next. If he approaches life’s challenges the way he did the game of hockey there is no doubt that he will be successful in whatever path he chooses.
