Brahmas On Brink Of Elimination After 2-1 Setback

Photo courtesy of Rebekah Bing Photography: Steven Ipri had Lone Star's only goal on the night as the Brahmas suffered a 2-1 setback against the Shreveport Mudbugs Saturday. Shreveport now leads the best of five series two games to none and the Brahmas are in a must win situation next weekend at home.

Once again the Lone Star Brahmas and Shreveport Mudbugs battled through 40 plus minutes of scoreless hockey. Lone Star seemed to be a step slow all for much of the opening half of the contest and had trouble winning on the faceoff dot.

For the second night in a row Shreveport went on top in the third thanks to a redirect in front by Jordan Fader. This time the goal came on the power play at 7:29. On the play Dominick Procopio moved the puck from the top of the far circle to Brendan Gysbers at the blueline. He fired one toward net that Fader got a stick on to put it past Mitchell Gibson glove side.

The Brahmas knotted it at one apiece at the 10:34 mark. Jon Russell floated a backhand pass through to Ture Linden in the high slot. Linden spun and ripped a low shot on goal through a Steven Ipri screen. Jaxon Castor made the kick save but left the puck just off the near post. Ipri jumped on the loose puck and roofed a backhander over the prone netminder.

With 3:18 left, Roberts Baranovskis picked up a loose puck in neutral ice. He split Kyle Hallbauer and Jakub Sirota cutting back to the slot and put it past Gibson.

The Mudbugs outshot the Brahmas 32-24 on the night and had the only special teams goal going 1-3 on the power play while Lone Star was 0-2.

Lone Star will be on the brink of elimination as they take to the ice Friday May 4, at NYTEX Sports Centre. To advance to the Robertson Cup finals the Brahmas must sweep at home next weekend then take a decisive game five back in Shreveport.
