The Brahma Warrior Award is presented each season to the Brahmas player “Who gives the extra effort both physically and mentally. He displays a competitive attitude by pushing himself and his teammates every day with a fearless and relentless attitude.”

Lackey came to the Lone Star Brahmas this season after a very successful campaign with the La Crosse Freeze of the NA3HL where he put up 77 points on 43G-34A in 41 games. He showed his versatility with Lone Star this season taking on a completely different role with the team. Rather than being a big goal scorer, he became one of the best defensive forwards in the NAHL South Division. Even with his defensive role he managed 4G-6A in 53 games played including one game winner.

While the NAHL Does not keep records on blocked shots, if they did Lackey would surely have been near the top of the league in the category. It seemed that Lackey was giving up the body to keep pucks away from the net on nearly every shift he skated.

One of Lackey’s fellow captains said of Clayton “He is always willing to block a shot and give everything he has for the boys.” It was also said of Lackey that “The kid has been a shot blocking machine all season.”

That was never more evident than during the final weekend of the regular season when the Brahmas were battling the Shreveport Mudbugs for the second seed in the South Division Playoffs. Lone Star was on the penalty kill when Lackey stepped in front of a big slapshot from the far point. The shot took him off his feet and he had to struggle to get back to his skates. Lackey fought to stay in the play to prevent his teammates from essentially being down two men. As the puck moved to the near side Lackey followed once again filling the shooting lane and blocking a second shot. Again he was taken off his feet and from the seat of his pants cleared the puck to the other end of the ice. After the two big blocks, Lackey had to be helped back to the bench for a line change.
