Lone Star Brahmas Log Shutout Win Over Jackalopes

Lone Star Brahmas - Eric Huss Photo courtesy of Rebekah Bing Photography: Lone Star Brahmas forward Eric Huss scored his first of the season which would be the eventual game winner as Ludvig Persson recorded his third shutout of the season in a 2-0 win over the Odessa Jackalopes.

The Lone Star Brahmas and Odessa Jackalopes squared off at the Ector County Coliseum Thursday in the first game of a three game series. Lone Star was looking to right the ship after a rough streak in which they lost four of five games.

There was a lot of back and forth early with Lone Star spending more time in the offensive zone, but few real scoring chances. Nearing the 14 minute mark of the first with the Lone Star Brahmas skating on the power play, Michal Stinil blasted one from just inside the blueline. CJ Walker who was battling for position in front of Aaron Randazzo took the shot off the right side of his head dropping him in the crease. After an extended period, Walker managed to get back to his skates with the help of Brahmas trainer Cynthia West and headed to the locker room as the facilities crew scraped the blood from the ice.

AT the 9:36 mark of the second the teams lined up for a faceoff to Randazzo’s left. Thomas Daskas won it cleanly back to Eric Huss who took two strides toward the high slot then rifled it just inside the near post and behind the Jackalopes netminder.

Moments later with the Jackalopes on the man advantage a shot went off bodies in front right to Jake Vaughan just off the near post. Ludvig Persson dove from the far post across the goal mouth to stone the point blank shot by Vaughan to preserve the one goal lead.

It went to a two goal lead for Lone Star when Sam Brennan dumped the puck in hard off the end wall. It bounced back out front to Matt Guerra who had a wide open net with Randazzo trying to play the ring around that never came. Time of the goal was 7:37 of the third.

The Lone Star Brahmas outshot the Jackalopes 29-24 in the contest and both teams were 0-2 on the power play.
