Eric Huss had a huge three game series in Odessa last weekend resulting in the Lone Star Brahmas forward and Army West Point commit being named the Bauer Hockey NAHL South Star of the Week. Huss put up six points in the series on 1G-5A and was a +4. He figured in to all three game winning goals in the sweep of the Jackalopes.

In game one of the series Huss scored midway through the second period for the game winner in a 2-0 Brahmas win over the Jackalopes.

Friday night he had the primary assist on Thomas Daskas’ second period game winner then followed that up with secondary assists on third period markers by Patriks Ozols and Joey Baez with the Ozols goal coming on the power play.

In the final game Huss picked up the secondary assist on Matthew Rickard’s first period goal that became the eventual game winner. With Odessa battling to get back in it Huss picked up his second point on the night with an assist on Matt Guerra’s empty net goal that iced it away.

Huss was not the only Lone Star Brahmas player recognized by Bauer Hockey and the NAHL. Brahmas netminder Ludvig Persson was named South Division Second Star of the Week as well for his efforts against the Jackalopes.

On Thursday night the native of Gothenburg, Sweden picked up his league leading third shutout of the season in only his ninth game played. Persson turned aside all 24 shots that the Jackalope sent his way in the 2-0 win.

Saturday Persson came on in relief stopping 17 of 18 in just over 44 minutes played as the Lone Star Brahmas pulled out a 7-4 win. The one goal he gave up came off a turnover in the high slot not giving him much of a chance to make the save.

The Lone Star Brahmas will be on the road this weekend taking on the Topeka Pilots in a battle of the top two teams in the NAHL South. Topeka currently holds the top spot one point ahead of the Lone Star Brahmas with Lone Star having two games in hand.
