Jackalopes Snap 22 Game Skid-Down Mudbugs 6-3

The Odessa Jackalopes snapped a 22 game winless streak Saturday with a 6-3 win over the Shreveport Mudbugs. It was the first time since November 22 that the Jackalopes offense had generated more than two goals in a contest.

After falling behind early in the first, Max Klanow scored his second goal of the season to send the game into the first intermission tied 1-1.

Klanow struck early in the second to hand the Jackalopes their first lead of the night with Jack Rudin scoring an unassisted goal at the 12:06 mark to add to the lead.

Odessa pushed the lead to three when Isaiah Heumpfner lit the lamp just 3:22 into the third. Former Jackalopes Captain Matt Hutton would sting his former teammates with a goal just 24 seconds later in an attempt to quell the momentum. However, Heumpfner had a quick response finding the back of the net just 14 seconds after the Hutton goal to retake the three goal lead.

After another Shreveport tally at the 14:23 mark Klanow recorded his first NAHL hattrick with 10 seconds remaining on the clock to seal the deal.

Newcomer Andrew Takacs picked up the win in net in his first game with Odessa after coming over in a trade from the Maryland Black Bears. Takacs stopped 31 of the 34 shots that came his way in the contest.

Odessa outshot Shreveport 34-28 on the night and went 2-6 on the power play while holding the Mudbugs off the board on their five power play opportunities.
