Lone Star Brahmas forward Matt Guerra was named the Bauer Hockey NAHL Forward of the Month for February after a torrid scoring stretch for the Sanford, Florida native.

Guerra led the NAHL in scoring for the month registering 17 points on 6G-11A including four game winning goals in nine games played. There was only one game in the February where Guerra failed to register a point. In addition to the regular season contests for the Brahmas, Guerra was selected to play for the South Division team in the recent 2020 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament recording three assists in two games played.

His tenacity and work ethic over the past two seasons drew the attention of the NCAA Scouts leading to a D-I commitment with Robert Morris University in Atlantic Hockey. Guerra will be reunited with former Brahmas Aidan Spellacy and Justin Addamo when he takes the ice with the Colonials next season.

“Matt has been playing good two-way hockey and it has been turning into offense. He is leading our team by example and has developed into an elite player as the season has progressed. I thought he played great at Top Prospects and look forward to him having a great rest of the season,” Brahmas head coach Dan Wildfong told NAHL.com.

That two way play has indeed turned into offense with the 5’10” – 180 pound forward logging 59 points with 17G-42A in 49 games played this season. Guerra is currently tied for second in the league in scoring and tied for the league lead in assists. He is also a +25 on the season.

Guerra recently became the Lone Star Brahmas NAHL franchise career scoring leader with nine games remaining in the season to add to his total. In 107 games played over two seasons in a Brahmas sweater Guerra has 29G-86A for 115 total points and eight game winners.

This award marks the fifth time this season Guerra has been recognized by the league. He received Forward of the Month Honorable Mention once to go along with twice being named South Division First Star of the Week and Honorable Mention once.
