The Lone Star Brahmas took to the Ector County Coliseum ice Saturday with the opportunity to push their win streak against the Jackalopes to five games.

A strong forecheck by Mitchell Digby just over two minutes into the game forced a turnover deep in the Odessa zone. Andrew DeCarlo pushed the puck up to the blueline for a shot from the point by Owen Nolan that Nick Neimo redirected over the glove hand of Noah Rupprecht at 2:13.

Odessa pulled even at 15:26 when Jack Musa pushed the puck along the end wall for Fletcher Anderson to center with a no look pass. The puck slid right to Joey Musa who onetimed it off Guy Blessing’s glove into the net. It was the Jackalopes first shot of the game.

The Brahmas went on the power play at 6:36 of the second and had the puck set up in the offensive zone. Digby skated from the blueline to the rightwing circle before sending a centering feed. Niemo fanned on the onetimer but the puck slid right into Zach Purcell’s wheelhouse and he wired it under the crossbar at 7:35.

Once again the Jackalopes came back to knot the score on a 3 on 2 break. The puck was carried up the rightwing before being sent to Tyler German in the high slot and he pushed it over to Ben Doherty just off the far post to push it inside the post.

With 11:44 to go in the third a strong individual effort by Dylan Smith led to the Brahmas retaking the lead. Smith picked the puck up in the neutral zone and went up the near side. He lowered his shoulder and powered his way through Jack Musa to move the puck behind the net. Smith spotted Dawson Tritt out front for a quick wrister into the twine.  With just 17.6 seconds to play and the Jackalopes skating with the extra attacker, DeCarlo grabbed a loose puck at center ice in front of the benches and fired it into the open net to ice the game away.

Shots on goal were 30-20 in favor of Lone Star and the Brahmas scored the only power play goal of the night going 1-2 while holding the Jackalopes to 0-2.
