After taking games one and two the Brahmas closed out their three game set against the New Mexico Ice Wolves with a Sunday matinee. In the previous two games it was Lone Star that got out to the early lead and Sunday would be no exception.

Nicholas Niemo pressured Keegan Langefels into a turnover at the Lone Star blueline. Zach Purcell picked up the loose puck and went in all alone at rifled a wrister over the glove of Beni Halasz at just 5:54 into the contest. Defensive pressure by the Brahmas led to another goal 62 seconds later. This time Luke Johnson forced the turnover and fought through two defenders to get the puck to Malte Hasselgren. Haselgren stickhandled to the front and tried to go five hole but Halasz closed the door. However, Joey Baez came flying in to blast it into the twine.

A little over nine minutes into the second New Mexico broke in on a 2 on 1 breaks with Nikolai Dulak skating up the left wing with Spencer Rudrud on his right. Mitchell Digby cut Dulak off forcing the pass to the Ice Wolves leading scorer, but Guy Blessing made the push across for the big pad save.

Lone Star went a man down at 9:32 and the Ice Wolves quickly cashed in. New Mexico ended up with the puck off the draw to Blessing’s left. Jack Bayless pushed it to Cole Hanson at the near point and he immediately moved it to Joey Larson for a rocket glove side. The goal came just four seconds into the power play.

The Brahmas went on a power play of their own just over four minutes later. After some considerable zone time with the man advantage Frederick Paine the Alex Konovalov had point blank shots stopped by Halasz but Johnson was anchored just off the far post to slap home the rebound. Time of the goal was 15:28.

The Brahmas lead went to three goals when Alex Murray blocked a shot and pushed it to the far boards for Neimo. He found Drew DeCarlo flying up the far side. Grant Morton dropped to try and take away the shooting lane, but DeCarlo’s laser cleared the Ice Wolves defender and evaded Halasz blocker at 3:59 of the third.

New Mexico had a 4 on 3 power play opportunity. Holt got the puck to Larson on the back door. Blessing made a big diving save just off the far post. Blessing lost his stick on the play and as he scrambled to get back in net Hanson fired one over his left pad at 9:57.

Shots on goal were 23 apiece. Lone Star was 1 – 6 on the power play while New Mexico was 2 – 3.
